So I showed [personal profile] deepsix a gif of a tiny robot on a tiny bicycle. And then [personal profile] thissugarcane was like, "LEGION ON A BIKE" and yeah. SORRY NOT SORRY.

(Sometime during the Citadel DLC. I swear I heard Shepard refer to Legion as "he" during an argument with the quarians before Priority: Rannoch but icbw!)

“Shepard-Commander, are you sure this is wise?” Legion’s upper head-flaps move in a way that, on an organic, would be interpreted as concern.

“You’ll do fine. If a kid can pick it up in a day, imagine how fast you will.” She grabs the back of the seat. “You ready?”

He nods affirmatively and starts pedaling. She runs alongside until he picks up speed, then lets go. He wobbles dangerously, then figures out how to correct himself. There is a steep slope ahead down to the rest of the Presidium, and he finally understands what it feels like to fly.

Father's Day on Rannoch

Mass Effect 3, Tali

On fathers, and living for yourself. (Also why a good case can be made for renaming the Normandy the SSV Daddy Issues)

The view from the living room is exactly as she pictured it when they first set foot on Rannoch. Auntie Raan sent flowers (the first from her garden) when the last nail was put in place. The house is quiet and lonely, but it’s not a home. Not yet.

She puts the chunk of N7 armor up on the wall. Legion. She takes the rock from her pocket and places it on the mantel. Shepard. She opens the front door and gazes out at the new-old land.

I made it, Father. And I did it on my own. Without you.

She sees a message from Garrus on her omnitool later that day. It’s short and to the point.

It can’t be easy today. Thinking of you.

The one she doesn’t expect is from Miranda.

I know what it’s like to be raised by a man who was obsessed with his legacy in the world. We were both molded for that, in our own ways. After what happened on Horizon, I regret you never got that chance for closure. If you ever want to talk about it, I’m always available.

She takes a deep breath, opens a drink, and starts typing.

Dear Bioware/EA,

Surely there's a way to be nice to somebody without accidentally restarting their romance from two games ago? MY SHEPARD'S HEART AND LOINS ARE PROMISED TO THE CATBIRD. Also, give me back her freckles you bastards.

No love,
Me

I now know that Turians have 27 layers of citizenship in their hierarchy and their military infrastructure is indistinguishable from their civic. And that Drell venom, despite being hallucinogenic, is mild enough to be served in mixed drinks. I still have no idea how the important stuff works.

In conclusion:

(if I were more ambitious I would probably paste dudeShep and Joker's heads on Bones and Kirk but this entry has gotten silly enough already.)

The other thing I wrote! Tragedy! Sadness! Impending death! Tortured metaphors! Alien sex!

Thanks to [personal profile] thissugarcane for cheerleading, although she will probably change her mind when she realizes how pretentious (and short) it is.

Ne dai mondo, ne dai ciel Mass Effect. Shepard (the female is implied)/Thane. Post ME2.

A thing I wrote! It is not the other thing I wrote! Writing two things is exciting!

Everything comes back to Sandman, apparently.

Mass Effect fic that people should write (I'm looking at [personal profile] thissugarcane and [personal profile] deepsix specifically but if anybody else wants to give it a shot I won't say no) because I want to read it:

Shepard (the fem! is implied)/Garrus/Thane (because why pick when you could have them both?)
Shepard/Garrus/Tali (it's practically canonical!)
Garrus/Tali post-ME3 trying to figure out how to put their lives back together and navigating a post-synthesis world

I am full of fannish feels!

I watched Iron Man 3 yesterday and without spoilers, I can say that it was really fun (at least as much as the original), Pepper is badass, and it was much smarter than I was expecting. You should absolutely stay for the bonus scene at the end.

I also finished Mass Effect 2, and totally stressed myself out because I was trying to keep everybody alive during the suicide mission. (You don't understand how much I get attached to fictional characters DON'T JUDGE ME K?) On normal difficulty it isn't that terrible and as long as you pay attention to the in-game cues you should be able to pick the right type of person for the job. (I also love how the Wikia walkthrough talks you down from various places where you might see things and freak out, because I would totally do that).

But yes. I wish I could impress upon you how much I adore this series. There is so much love and detail and lore and character development put into this universe and I do not understand people who play the games and don't become irrevocably and deeply attached to it. Now if you will excuse me, I need to READ ALL THE FIC.
pearwaldorf: it's not often a friendship lasts two lifetimes (ds9 - dax sisko bffs)
I JUST HAD A REVELATION GUYS.

So I totally love Natasha/Clint in any form. I don't know if I ship it or friend it more (as [personal profile] some_stars so charmingly puts it, "Blackhawk or Bromanov"), but it wasn't until her last post that I realized--well shit. It's totally the femShep/Garrus dynamic all over again. They are so fucking amazing together, as a couple or as comrades-in-arms, and I have this certainty they can take anything the universe throws at them as long as they have each other's backs. I hope better fic comes out of Avengers, because I sure haven't been able to find any for Mass Effect.

[edit:] I totally lied. Tarysande does amazing femShep/Garrus (thx [personal profile] thissugarcane ). Go, go.

Also you should totally listen to the new Florence + the Machine song. It's awesome. And the only Mass Effect mix I have ever found that does not suck.

Wooooo I have beaten Mass Effect. \o/

The best part of maxing out your Paragon meter is that you can be a complete ass to Ambassador Udina and it has no consequences for your alignment. :D

I don't know what to do with my afternoon/early evening. I guess I could play Mass Effect, but I'm at a point in the game where I have to make a choice I don't really want to make, or I've made the choice already but I'm not ready to go through it yet. Spoiler-ish, I guess? )

Also I am having issues clearing out Geth hordes and I keep dying a lot. Maybe I'll just write fic about how this picture came to be and how dude!Shep deals with celebrity, fanart, and unauthorized VIs of himself.

This is really more for when [livejournal.com profile] goodconceited finishes his playthrough of Mass Effect 3, elaborating on what I thought about the ending. (I'd also love to know what you think too!) It must have been interesting to play the game as a reviewer, way before any of this brouhaha started, and process that on your own without the weight of other people's reactions. Pretty much every gaming blog worth reading on the Intarwubs (annotated list to folow!) has chimed in with their reactions, and all of them have good points and perspectives, but I think Richard Cobbett at Rock, Paper, Shotgun does the best job of addressing issues from a story perspective.

I appear to have read all the Mass Effect fic on AO3. I REGRET NOTHING Um, oops? Is there any other stuff housed somewhere else worth reading?

(I still do not know what it is with Bioware fangirls and their proclivity for using "mewling" as a sexy adjective but I really wish it would stop. D:)

The amount of femShep/Joker was surprising and slightly perplexing. I also now know way too much about Turian biology, or speculations upon it.

So how have you been?
