pearwaldorf: a foggy mirror with a heart drawn on it. a little speech bubble in the middle says "you" (misc - love you)
Such a broad assortment of fandoms this year! As always, this is not curated from the entire collection, just the stuff I'm familiar with.

Animal Crossing

The Only Place
An extremely cute little vid about an island that's become solace for a lot of us this year

Golden Girls

Shut Up And Dance With Me
A sweet and poignant look at these four women's relationship. Love the match cuts in the middle (you'll see)

Independent Women
I have always loved these ladies as a model for everything, and this vid gets to the heart of that.

Knives Out

Sorry, Not Sorry
A thoughtful and incisive (no pun intended) look at Marta's relationships with Ransom and Harlan

Magic Mike 2

My Goddess
This is 👌🏼 all the way through

A Midsummer Night's Dream (2019) (the Gwendoline Christie one)

Sweet Dreams
If the production isn't as queer, chaotic, and horny as this vid makes it seem, I don't want to know

Stranger Companies
How is this just as queer, chaotic, and horny but in a completely different way?

Monument Valley

Sacred Geometry
An extremely charming vid set to a song that captures the vibe of the game immaculately. It's such a pleasure, visually and aurally, that I think you should watch it even if you know nothing about the game.

Much Ado About Nothing (1993)

I Want You To Want Me
A perfect distillation of the 90s, in song and source

The Old Guard
all canon content warnings apply

Valhalla
This is not the "Immigrant Song" cover I was expecting. Goddamn, this vid is impeccably cut. Love the rhythm it establishes, the way it uses longer cuts for emphasis, and particular beat matches are just 🙏🏼

Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)
An Andy and Nile-centric vid about the travails of immortality

Never Look Away
I am contractually obligated to watch every vid set to a Vienna Teng song. I don't make the rules.

Palm Springs

you make it better like that
An extremely cute Nyles/Sarah vid to a perfect song

The Planets (2019)

Across the Universe
Look I'm a basic bitch who's gonna cry at SPACE FEELINGS set to this song in any form. I can't help it.

Lanterns
SPACE FEELINGS. OTHER HUMANS HAVING SPACE FEELINGS.

The Repair Shop

Back It Up
The horny Repair Shop vid. Not competence porn (although there is that), actual horniness.

Time to Make Sawdust
The exact polar opposite of the other vid. It's so gentle and soothing it nearly put me to sleep.

Singin' In the Rain

Umbrella
We love us a bit of intertextual conversation, so this vid to a Postmodern Jukebox cover of "Umbrella" is delightful

Speed Racer (2008)

Pump It Up
I am starting to think the visuals in this movie really were ahead of their time, seeing stuff from it now.

Street Dance of China

CONTROL
I know literally nothing about this fandom but this was a cool af vid

Takeshi's Castle

Princes of the Universe
How does one explain Takeshi's Castle? I guess it's like the Japanese version of American Gladiators, but there's inflatable costumes and Takeshi Kitano (aka Beat Takeshi the guy who does all those gritty yakuza films) is there? The song is perfect.

Trainspotting

Good Riddance
It's been a super long time since I've watched the movie to be fair, but this is not what I remember about it. Unexpected, affecting.

Watchmen (TV)
all canon content warnings apply

Nothing is Safe
Fuck. FUCK. I always love when a vidder takes a source with fantastic visuals and combines it with an extraordinarily apt song and it's just. God tier

Doubt
This does some really interesting things with match cuts and visual similarity tha I'm sure would be much more significant if I was familiar with the source, but it's still cool to watch
pearwaldorf: (misc - get excited)
As always, this is only a portion of the vids, and you should absolutely check them out. There are lots of Expanse, Discovery (including one to Dessa's Children's Work!!), and Schitt's Creek vids for those who go there.

Critical Role/D&D

Can't Stop the Feeling
A super duper cute dancing vid. Requires no canon knowledge. Please watch this, it will put a smile on your face.

Garden of Your Mind
All about creativity and storytelling via TTRPGs. Love the song choice so much.

Fantastic Four (2015)

Seven Devils (Johnny Storm)
Love how atmospheric this is.

Whatever It Takes (Johnny Storm)
A nice character study packed into a very short vid.

Ginger Snaps

Down With The Sickness
Everything I know about this movie is through fandom osmosis. But it appears to involve red-headed sisters, werewolves, shitty men, and possibly incest. I'm here for it. (cw: blood, gore, the usual horror movie stuff)

Iron Fist

Written In the Stars (Colleen Wing; Colleen/Danny)
I have not watched the actual series, but I adore Colleen from what I've seen of her in Defenders and Luke Cage. I love how this vid explicitly sets her up as the co-protagonist of the story along with Danny with the parallels and match cuts.

Hamlet (2009)
This is the RSC Tennant version

Grounds for Divorce (Hamlet)
This is so, so good. When you have a good source to work with it automatically elevates the quality of anything transformative made with it, but the way the vidder picks out all the interesting dramatic bits (that usually involve Tennant doing ridiculous things with his body) is just chefkiss.gif.

Mars Rover fandom/RPF(?)

Speeding Rover
Oh no I have so many feelings

The West Wing

That Don't Impress Me Much (CJ Cregg)
CJ is so fucking done with your (and by your I mean her male colleagues') shit.

Untitled Goose Game

Untitled Goose Vid (Goose)
Look. It's an UGG vid to Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation". Why are you still here?
pearwaldorf: (misc - get excited)
Attack the Block
Council Estate (I love this song choice, the way it digs into the themes of the movie)

Empire (TV)

Monster (Lyons ensemble vid, turn up the sound. I like how it uses the structure of the song to build up to Cookie's section at the end.)

Ex Machina
A Song of Innocence and Experience (the contrast between the song and the general horror of the vid is great)
About a Girl (Yes, it uses "My Humps". And it is fucking amazing.)
I Will Be (Gorgeous, sinister, unsettling.)

Flight of the Conchords

Daft Punk is Playing at My House (This makes me miss the show so much.)

Fresh Off the Boat

Family Affair (aka Jessica Huang, HBIC. The song is perfect.)

Galavant
It's Gonna Be Me (Richard/Madalena. Oh honey, it's not. Madalena's faces in this, it's amazing)

Hamilton
Goddamn every single one of these is amazing, and I'm fucking overjoyed.
Bang Bang (show and Lin tribute. I legit cried.)
Comedy Tragedy History (I think this is a sort of #yayhamlet reference? I love the structure of the vid, the way it mixes the stage and external source very specifically.)
Dance Apocalyptic (Beautiful, kinetic.)
Here I Stand (The song is absolutely perfect. Everything about this is impeccable.)
I Gotta Feeling (I cried at this one too. So full of joy and love.)
Independent Women (Schuyler Sisters treat. So great.)
Jefferson Funk (Thomas Jefferson treat to "Uptown Funk". Perfect.)
Lose Yourself (I like how it uses the demo version of the song in this, and it's just perfect.)
Ready Or Not (Perfect song choice, impeccable.)

Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell
All That's Left Are Your Bones (gorgeous lady-centric vid)

Jupiter Ascending
One Beattt (not a song choice I would have expected, but it works really well.)
Skyfall (It makes the movie look grander and more serious than it actually is, with the beautiful shots of the environment and spaceships, but then, ROCKET HEELIES.)

Luther
Light 'em Up (John/Alice AND FOB? idk what I did to deserve this vid, but I'll keep on doing it.)

Push
I of the Storm (This gorgeous vid makes me wish people loved this movie more.)

Stardust
A Forest (gorgeous, a little dark and sinister in a way I like)
