Vote for Measure 30, y'all. You would too if you stood in line for an HOUR waiting for some poor work study mook to stamp your damn admit-to-class paper. When I find the legislative members responsible for the cuts to the financial aid department, I will make them stand in line with the rest of the students who need their financial aid and admission shit done. Twice. And then I will send them to the cashier line on the first day of classes to pay their tution. [/bitter public university student]

Also, re: Iowa. What the fuckety fuck? Kerry? Mr. "Hey lookit me! I'm a war hero! I have no other distinguishing characteristics 'cause I'm a middle of the road Democrat, but I'm a war hero!" Kerry? And Edwards? The fucking ambulance chaser? Fucking Iowans.

And Dean. Where do I start with Dean? Shame on him for getting all of our hopes up like that, despite the fact that he's more centrist than the hippie granola overwhelmingly white crowd that comprises his followers would have you believe. He's starting to come off less as crusading reformer than pugnacious git with enough liberal white guilt for a Progressive Student Union chapter at PSU. The whole running head-butt at Clark and calling him a "closet Republican?" *facepalm* Not staying in Iowa for the last day of the caucus to go wring an endorsement out from Jimmy Carter (that he never got)? *keyboard, head, smash repeatedly*

[livejournal.com profile] bubosquared? How hard is it to learn Dutch? Or would I be better off learning French? 'Cause Belgium is starting to look a lot better right now.

Dutch is easier than French if you're English-speaking, I think, but don't ever expect to be able to spell compound words or plurals of words ending in y correctly. (Twice! They changed the official spelling twice in the twelve years I was in primary and secondary school! That's three different spellings I've had to learn, people! Aaarrrrrgh!)

On the other hand, Belgians tend to be easy-going people who don't take themselves too seriously. Then again, it's difficult to take yourself very seriously when your country's revolution started with an opera, and your independence was only accepted by the Big Five or whatever because they wanted some padding between Germany and France.

We also have very good food. :)

I'm finding Dutch easier to pick up than French; you can sort of understand it just by looking at it hard enough. "Mag ik me even voorstellen? Mijn naam is Zed." etc.
