Good news, everybody! The position I'd been chasing since February has indeed materialized! I will be a data scientist for a company you've probably never heard of, in a division that makes white-label personal finance management software (think Mint). I am extremely excited as it's the closest thing I will get to a dream job, with commensurate salary (holy shit it is so much more money than I was making previously). I start in September for Hilarious Reasons but also because I need to take care of some shit before starting full-time employment again.
I have been extremely fortunate to have had this long to recuperate and fuck around, thanks to a generous amount of severance and the benevolence of the government teat. ($300 extra/week turns out to be a lot of fucking money!) But I am also glad to have a new challenge to look forward to.
