Autobiography of Red by Anne Carson. They had a copy at Powell's the last time I was there, but it's harder to find in chain bookstores.

Zadie Smith's White Teeth and Billy Childish's Notebooks of a Naked Youth. Two of my all-time favorite books.

Oh, oh, oh, I second the Billy Childish recommendation. That book is gorgeous.

Yay! I've grown to assuming that no one else has read it, so that was certainly a welcome surprise. Also, I'm with you on Letters to Wendy's--it's brilliant.

Northern Gothic, duh!

Barring that, I liked The Mount by Carol Emshwiller.

Robert Hellenga is a professor at my college. My friends who have taken his classes tell me that he talks about sex way too much. :)

Armageddon Summer by Jane Yolen and Bruce Coville. Yeah, okay, it's a young adult book, but it's a quick read with a beautiful plot. Just look it up and read the synopsis. You'll want to read it, trust me.

Or My Real Dad by Scott Bateman. Only $4 at Powell's. Hilarious, quick read. It's awesome.

Letters to Wendy's By Joe Wenderoth. It will rock your shit. Fucking hilarious book entirely written on Wendy's comment cards.
