Howard Zinn is supposed to be coming to Reed College to lecture tonight. I was not informed of this. At all. Neither was anybody who doesn't have friends at Reed (or look at Portland Indymedia). I hear it's supposed to be some sort of ticketed event for Reedies only. Yes, I understand he has a $2500 speaking fee, yes I understand that Kaul Auditorium probably can't hold as many people as would like to see Mr. Zinn, but it really makes me angry when something like this isn't even publicized. The man is booked YEARS in advance, and the last time I can remember him swinging through town is 1992 at PSU. What's the bloody point of counter-discourse when you can't even get access to it?

currently elated because i just realized that istvan deak teaches at columbia. and anna deavere smith is giving a lecture in two weeks. and i love both these people very very much.
