An Infinity War has been seen!
Non-spoilery: I would like to thank God, Jesus, and the Russo brothers for bearded Steve Rogers in the Commander Rogers suit. That alone was worth the price of admission.
I was upset about Heimdall and even Loki. It was so unceremonious and on one level I was annoyed by it, but I also appreciate it was done just to deny people the satisfaction of a "good" death for him. I want to give Thor a hug. :(
I'm angry they keep bringing Pepper back just to give me feels about her and Tony's relationship. THEY HAD MATCHING ATHLEISURE OUTFITS. THERE IS NOTHING ABOUT THAT THAT IS OKAY AND I'M STILL ROOTING FOR THEM. I legit thought Tony was going to die after Thanos stabbed him and my first thought was "Pepper's going to be so worried". THANKS I HATE IT AND MY FEELINGS ABOUT TONY STARK WHO I LIKE MORE THAN I FEEL I SHOULD.
I still do not know why somebody at the MCU thought it would be a great idea to cast Bindysnort Cramperpickle and have him use an American accent. It continues to baffle me.
I GIVE ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKS ABOUT THANOS'S FEELINGS OR WHAT HE THINKS HE SACRIFICED HE STILL TOSSED HIS DAUGHTER OFF A CLIFF TO GET WHAT HE WANTED. I have Some Rage to work through about Gamora's fridging and I don't know that I can talk coherently about it yet, but it feels really shitty and disrespectful. (Also I want fic where Nebula and Peter come to some sort of understanding of each other through their shared grief.)
I remain charmed by Peter Parker despite my adamant resistance. Poor sweet boy is totally in over his head, and I just want him to deal with his usual neighborhood-level threats as opposed to horrible universe-breaking terror. My heart shattered into a thousand pieces when he clutched Tony right before he dissipated. I CAN'T PROTECT THEM ALL.
STEEEEEEVEEEEE. Oh god he looked so fucking good. Thirst aside, no-fucks-given chaotic good looks real nice on him. It feels like the natural cumulation of an arc that we should have gotten in Civil War, but came to fruition here instead. WE GOT OUR STEVE AND BUCKY HUG! AND THEN BUCKY AND SAM BOTH DISAPPEARED! WHY IS STEVE ALWAYS THE ONE WHO GETS LEFT BEHIND? DDDD:
I loved all the scenes in Wakanda, because Wakanda and everything about Black Panther is awesome, but I wonder how much people who haven't seen Black Panther got out of the characters there. Okoye is basically there to make snarky remarks, T'Challa is grave and dignified, Shuri is smart, and M'Baku is thicc. I'm so delighted we got an Okoye/Natasha/Wanda fight scene; I was hoping for one and not expecting it to happen.
Wanda needs a fucking hug and for people to not keep giving her trauma. It's bad enough she lost her brother without a fucking word in THREE MOVIES about it, then she has to kill her boyfriend? Please send her to a tropical island where all she has to do is drink mai tais and swim.
I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I was apprehensive because people were like, You know the airport fight in Civil War? It's got a lot of that. And yes, there's a lot of battle (nothing as well-done as in Black Panther, but perfectly competent, and much better than in Age of Ultron), but it never felt like too much or it was building to a Big Fight like in Civil War. Which makes sense--you have to give everybody their go with Thanos, and I think it worked out much better with a bunch of littler skirmishes. Also, emotional investment helps.
