Feb. 5th, 2009 04:30 pmThe new Torchwood preview looks totally lame. Except for the part where I worry about Gwen. And the boykissing. The childrens. Oh noes. *yawn*
There's this really awesome article about Joss Whedon and Dollhouse in the new Rolling Stone (with Sean Penn on the cover and sadly unavailable online) about how Joss is giving up on commercial TV after all the shit he's had to deal with re: Dollhouse, which breaks my heart. I don't really have any love for most commercial TV, but I keep thinking about girls who won't have the benefit of watching and identifying with strong women characters like Buffy and Zoe and it makes me sad. The scotched scripts for Dollhouse are intriguing, and I wish they'd give him more latitude to explore. (And oh god Eliza Dushku needs a cheeseburger. When did she get so skinny?)
At the same time, though, the prospect of more Dr. Horrible is fab and the model of smaller-scale Internet-distributed TV is intriguing. I just wonder if it would have taken off as well without the big names and credibility already behind it.

Date: 2009-02-06 01:33 am (UTC)It saddens me, but surprises me not in the least, that Joss Whedon is giving up commercial TV. He's too good for it. And as long as he continues to produce internet TV, I'll continue to watch it, also with gusto.
