I went to the Genius Bar yesterday and they (all four of the Geniuses consulted) were of the opinion that it's just how the iMacs are manufactured and it's a technical limitation. So, I carted it home and contemplated whether or not to get used to the display or exchange it for a previous gen iMac. There are now dead pixels on the display and text is being rendered funny (in that there is one particular area that makes text all squiggly and blobby) again. I am, shall we say, less than thrilled. [livejournal.com profile] cow, you weren't kidding when you said when Apple hardware sucks, it blows chunks.

[eta:] And now I'm informed that the wait for tech support is at least 15 minutes. Fucking grand.

[eta 5:49pm:] Well, at least it's the Dave Matthews variety hour. Apple does have the best hold music (with the exception of the strange Cingular New Wave station at the call center of doom), if I must listen to it.

[eta3:] Oh motherfucker if this is true I'm going to be so mad. A Mac tablet? It's like two great tastes that go orgasmically together!

I've heard from a couple people that the guys at the Mac Store on 45th are a lot better to deal with for warranty stuff than the Apple Store in the UVillage lately.

Personally, I would have taken the "geniuses" over to one of the display iMacs and said, "Does mine look like this one? No. Fix it."

That's the thing. They looked at them and swore that they looked the same. I, of course, disagreed. I don't know if that's the line they were told to take by Apple or what, but I didn't feel particularly well-serviced at all. It was very disappointing after hearing about all this excellent customer service and attention to detail hoo-hah over the years.

That's really shitty. I've received excellent service from the Mac Store. And since you just got your iMac, your AppleCare warranty should cover manufacturing defects like that.

I probably should have pitched a fit, but I was too damn tired. So I get to spend hours on hold while they do another exchange for me. At least it's done now. Rage.
