Aug. 11th, 2007 03:50 pmI went and saw Stardust, and I'm quite happy. I was utterly terrified that somehow, despite Neil's involvement, they'd fuck it up royally anyways. But they didn't, and it's wonderful. It's funny and sweet and lovely, and everybody's great in it, especially Robert DeNiro and Michelle Pfeiffer. (Ricky Gervais also has a tiny role.) Even Claire Danes doesn't suck. Her accent doesn't fade in and out, and she doesn't sound like a SoCal actress.
It differs a bit from the book, which isn't surprising, given that the book is quite short, but everything was done in a way that was still true to its spirit. They even changed the ending, which I didn't mind. How often does that happen? Don't pay attention to the trailers--they make the movie look so drab and unimpressive. If you liked The Princess Bride, you will definitely enjoy Stardust. And even if you didn't, dood. Your major options, if you didn't see Bourne Supremacy last week, are Daddy Day Care and Rush Hour 3. Go see Stardust.

eponis's review. Hers is much better than mine.
