This is kind of a pretentious idea, but I like it: buy books with covers you find attractive, stick 'em in shadowboxes, and mount them on your wall, preferably in themes.

Scott's mention of shelviing books by color reminded me of the Aby Warburg Library. I heard much about the strange organization of the library and its influence on Frances Yates in my (mostly execrable) year at the PSU honors college. Yates wrote a book called Giordano Bruno and the Hermetic Tradition, which alleges that he was much more influenced by mysticism and magic than the rest of the world now would like to believe. And apparently John Crowley drew upon the Bruno book for Little, Big; which I keep meaning to read because the ten pages I got through were absolutely wonderful.

Either I run in circles smaller than I ever realized or the world really is that tiny. I haven't figured out which.

That's a very cool idea. *bookmarks* Oh, and noting my most recent bookmark before this on del.icio.us, I've been learning Mandarin from a coworker. It's a very very slow process. Indonesian's much easier for me to absorb with its Latin alphabet. WHY CAN'T WE ALL BE THE SAME, I ASK YOU? Diversity hurts my brain, man!

Apropos of nothing, I used to organize my CDs by color. No one but me could find anything, it was amazing! (It's also a different way of thinking about albums. Ok, that album should really be blue, but of course the cover is black...)
