Life update:

Cody has new job. Starts the first. Annual household income will now approach something people may consider lower middle class. Possibly even middle middle class. (This is all basically an excuse to link to this Veronica Mars clip. That was when I fell in love with the show.)

Have quit Canadian job. Surprisingly sad to leave. Accepted contract position at large search company. Not the homegrown one, the other one. Also going to talk to another company that has position actually related to field of study. Job, alas, requires talking to the public and technical support. We'll see what happens with that.

Moving back to Seattle on the 4th. Have lovely new apartment with a fireplace(!), in-suite laundry(!!), and a dishwasher(!!!), all for 15% less than what we were paying in Vancouver. It also has a sunken living room, which I am told is Very Classy and Upscale. I look forward to non-sucky Netflix, Mexican food, and a profound reduction in my daily sightings of Louis Vuitton (no, seriously, I saw a LV fanny pack on the bus once) and Coach accessories. I shall miss single-payer health care and sane(r) politics.

Fireplaces in that part of the country are ridiculously common. I'm not sure why, unless there's a lot of rolling blackouts tha I don't know about in the winter. (This, from someone who grew up somewhere that gets ridiculous amounts of snow and does not have that same commonality of fireplaces.)
