Good news: Somebody called me back about a job I applied for.

Bad news: It's for a call center.

I told my last supervisor God willing, I'd never set foot in a call center again. Well fuck you God.

have you tried lots of temp agencies? what job websites have you registered at?

The problem with temp agencies is that it seems like most of what they offer now is call centre work... I was flatly told by Randstad, the agency Alice and I both used to work through, that all they had was call centre work and admin work for which only people with years of experience qualified, i.e. not me or Alice.

Personally, I would just steer clear of temp agencies altogether and go door to door...coffeeshop work doesn't pay quite as well, but it's way less soul-destroying than any call centre.

Alas alack, job websites seem only to attract scammers and work at home offers. Or places like Farmer's Insurance. Which would be a nice place to work, considering my other options, but anyways.

Well, I did get a number of calls from actual, legitimate companies after I updated my resume at Monster.com...but they were all call centres and were also all in places like Beaverton and Wilsonville. Gah.

Gah! The first step to never working in a call center is to not apply to one!

...good luck. How is everything else in Seattle going?

It's going pretty well. Cody and I have joined a gym, and we're slowly discovering decent restaurants and getting to know the city. There's a great farmer's market down the street. No friends yet though, so I'm talking to the cat a lot more often.

Yeah, there's something inherently evil about call centers. I've never been able to put my finger on it, but you can definitely feel it.

Also, that is an awesome icon.

I think it has to do with a combination of the fluorescent lighting and the aura of desperation and misery that surrounds the workers at every turn.

Also, that is an awesome icon.

Why thank you. I wish I could remember which LJ user I stole it from, so I could tell them that.
