Oct. 27th, 2004 10:50 amHey! Wanna travel to swing states and talk to voters? Free? With all your food and housing paid for?
Dear MoveOn Students,
I’ll get straight to the point: the most powerful thing you can do to win this election is go to a swing state and volunteer. If you think there’s even the tiniest chance that you can do it (especially if we drive and pay for food and housing) click the link below and find out more:

If you absolutely know you can’t go, just forward this message on to friends who can – they’ll find a link to a cool flash movie and a real chance to personally change the course of history. Not bad. Try to pick at least 3 friends that you think might seriously do it, and write a personal appeal to them. That could make the difference.

Here’s the situation: Our friends at Americans Coming Together, (ACT) have been working tirelessly for over a year setting up the most sophisticated get-out the vote operation in history, and now they just need YOU to bring it all home.
To show you how serious they are, ACT has extended a unique offer to MoveOn Student Action members: they will pay for busses, food and lodging for thousands of volunteers nationwide to get to battleground states for Election Day weekend. Chances are to get to and from the nearest swing state you’ll only have to drive to a bus pick-up location near you (maybe even right on your campus!).
ACT needs to know how much to budget for buses, food and lodging for MoveOn Student Action members, and that depends on sign ups from this e-mail. Let them know you’re ready to go:

What can you expect when you get to a swing state? It’s the simple, practical stuff that does more than years of stump speeches and television ads combined:
* Driving supporters to the polls
* Monitoring for any signs of vote suppression and helping restore voters rights
* Calling voters and reminding them where their polling place is
* Cheering your cause outside key polling locations
* Going door to door spreading the word: it’s Election Day!!!
It can be fun, it can be hard, but it’s always worth it to know you gave you last full measure to fight for the future we believe in. On November 3rd, you’ll be glad you did.
