Sep. 12th, 2004 08:09 pmWhat the hell did fandom do before illicit copies of movies were available, honestly? How on earth does one sustain a fandom when one has to wait nine months or more for a decent copy of the movie to cap?
Anyways. So I watched Garden State last night. It wasn't everything I thought it would be, but I liked it a lot. It was kind of uneven in parts, but the parts that worked were really good. I'll let you in on a dirty little secret: Snobby pseudo-intellectual types like myself dig romance movies too (I sobbed like a baby at the end of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). They just have to be well-written and contain kickass soundtracks. :P The last part reminded me a lot of the end of The Graduate, like it was how Ben and Elaine were supposed to turn out--both messed up and unsure with no direction in their lives, but able to work through it because they have each other. I have no doubt that Large and Sam will have their rough moments, but I think they'll be all right. And somehow, that is ridiculously comforting.
