He got admitted to the hospital for chest pains and they found out he needs a quadruple bypass. He'll be fine, but as the last competent president who also happened to preside over the last sustained period of economic prosperity, there has been much concern.
Eeep! I do hope he'll recover fully. I may not have agreed with everything he did as a president (and no, I'm not talking about Monica, which as far as I'm concerned should have been a private matter), but at least he always made me feel as if he'd actually thought through his decisions.
(I feel/felt the same way about people like McCain or Powell. I may not always agree with their reasoning, but I can understand it. With Bush, half the time I feel like the only reasoning is "Because I said so, dammit!")
Gah. McCain. It annoys the living shit out of me that he went on the Daily Show and said this was one of the worst RNCs he's ever seen, and yet he helped contribute to the GOP's veneer of respectability by speaking for Bush. After what happened to him in 2000. If that's not the definition of tool, I don't know what is. At least Powell had the sense to stay away, but this is after the stupid things he's done for the administration. It just makes me sad, because they're both intelligent men, but they both willingly worked for this jackass administration. The thing that vexes me is that it probably would have been worse if they hadn't (especially re: Powell's influence on not picking on Syria/Iran).
