Oh man. That is-- ouch. Yeah.

On the upside, those replies are actually in Finnish. (Which, uh, Quenya is loosely based on. Oh dear.)

I was under the impression that while Tolkien admired Finnish a great deal, Quenya actually bears very little resemblance grammatically to Finnish, according to actual speakers of the language.

The grammar is completely different, but then, Finnish has a unique and rather complex grammatical structure (which -- for trivia purposes -- makes it, supposedly, the second most difficult language for native English speakers to learn, after Mandarin). The sounds of the language, rather than the grammar, are what Tolkien borrowed from, as I understand -- that's why the written language looks similar to Quenya, which uses a lot of unusual dipthongs and umlauted vowels, especially at the end of words.

...Sometimes I really wish I didn't have this sort of information in my head. Dear lord.
