So. Apparently we're gonna get a draft if these two bills pass. There is almost no deferment for college, and while everybody must do service, who gets put where is entirely up to Congress and the administration. The rich kids are all going to get the Coast Guard and National Guard slots, I'm betting. Canada's not an option either, because there have been regulations tightening up the borders to guard against draft dodgers. I keep hearing stuff about how women will not be exempt, but I think that's highly unlikely. Think this is a bad thing? Click that link above and voice your displeasure to your senators and representative. It's your ass in the hot seat, 'cause I know y'allare of draftable age, you might want to do something about it.

And apparently one can do this and still discharge one's duty to one's country, as it is the ceremony that transforms one into a soldier, not simply showing up. It might be true, I really don't know. But it's good information to keep in mind.
