Fight with sarcasm. You'll never, ever, ever convince these people that same sex unions are ok, under the law or not, because from their world view, there can be no defense of same sex unions.

So you need to fight it on their level.

Argue that you will support their position, provided it includes provisions abolishing divorce, and rendering null and void any marriages granted to divorced couples.

Considering the divorce rate among conservatives, it's a fair bet that a huge number of those pushing for the Defence of Marriage Act are divorced.

After all, Divorce is the ultimate form of Marriage Destruction.
