So I picked up New Spring, the Wheel of Time prequel, and I was delighted to not only find Moiraine (who was the only realized three-dimensional female character in the entire Wheel of Time series) in a starring role, there's also slashness between Moiraine and Siuan, and that makes me squee lots and lots. Love! Camaraderie! Rare pairings and fandoms! All-girl educational environs! It's like fucking tailor-made for the type of shit I enjoy and think about (because I'm a slacker and too busy by turns) writing. Cue Googling for Wheel of Time slash of any kind, because I don't know if it exists.

From the Wheel of Time FAQ:

Be careful, however, about posting Wheel of Time based erotica or slash (fanfic that sexualizes main characters of the original work by describing homosexual sex between them). It’s not uncommon for legal actions, typically in the form of cease-and-desist letters, to be taken in such cases. In a December 2002 interview with the fan websites wotmania.com and dragonmount.com, Robert Jordan said, "The one thing I do try to keep an eye out for is slash or KS fiction using my characters... if you write erotica using my characters and post it, I WILL find you and I will come down on you like the Hammer of God. So, is he objecting to the fact that it's bad slash, bad erotica, bad fanfic, erotica, slash, fanfic, or just bad? That's just fucking tacky. Given the shittiness of the last book, he should be lucky he still has fans willing to shell out 30 clams plus tax for whatever he writes. So, fuck you Robert Jordan, and this is why Neil Gaiman is so much cooler.

omg theirloveissosapphic. I think Jordan sees it too, because the more I get into the book the more pronounced the sexual tension becomes. I'd like to think Moiraine and Siuan bludgeoned him over the head and held him captive until he agreed to acknowledge their twue wuv. And kept him to under 350 pages. :P

*laugh* Wow. You realize that I'm now suddenly wanting to read a Robert Jordan book, for the first time in at least four years...?

See, this is what happens when you write a nice decent story about girl/girl love. The story becomes interesting, and compelling, and economical in its word use. As opposed to those other monstrosities he turns out, which amount to little more than 700+ pages each of him wanking off to the thought of this gawky adolescent kid having his pick of the three hottest women in the land. Personally, I'd rather see Siuan touch Moiraine's "True Source" any day. (^_~)

Indeed. And I know this is just part of the story that was chopped when he submitted New Spring for the Legends story collection, but it's really quite good. There's a bunch of stoof about the White Tower that is an excellent example of world creation, which is really all he was good at (too good, considering all the crap that's going to fall on him in books 11 and 12).

Bwaaahaaaaa. I don't know what it is, but I've never been able to click with Siuan as a person. As an Amyrlin, I can respect her, I can empathize with her, but I can't really like her. Or love her. Unlike Moiraine, who so obviously does, and it's wunnerful.

You know, I bought that Legends book, but never actually read it, and now I think it's lost. I was so happy to see that he was writing about Moiraine, because while things were not looking up after the first book, after she was semi-"killed" off, things really began to suck.

I agree with you about Siuan, by the way. I mean, what do we know about her? We know she's a good Amyrlin, and good at making political moves in general. We also know that she's a fisherman's daughter. We know this because RJ tells us, and because every time she opens her mouth, silly fish metaphors come out. But as a person... eh, whatever. You know who I always liked, even though she was a minor character? Verin, the Brown Aes Sedai. I mean, she was a total stereotype, but she was a huge g33k, and I had a bit of a fangirl crush on her for it. She was kind of the me of the WoT world. I would have loved to see her be Moiraine's femmebitch.

Yeah, okay. What I'm really trying to say here is, I only mentioned Siuan because I wanted to use the phrase "touch her True Source." That's all, really.
