Dr. Dean has been weighing for months whether to forgo federal matching funds and be free of the spending limits that come with them. The poll of supporters could blunt criticism of such a move.
Okay. I totally understand how Dean feels about Bush circumventing the federal matching funds limit so he can use the shitloads of money he has from all the people who want him to stay in office. What totally irks me about the poll itself, and the email that Dean sent out to hisslobbering minions (yes, I am subscribed to the list myself, cool yer hackles)supporters announcing it is that the decision is already made. I mean, if forgoing federal funds is what Dean needs to win (and it probably is), his supporters will go for it regardless. It's all just window dressing now. And to think that Dean's supporters won't notice is stupid on his part. Or maybe he's grasping what I've started suspecting all along, that the illusion of being able to make a difference and have a say in the politics of this country is all that is keeping this country's political system from falling apart faster than it is.
