Sep. 1st, 2003 01:34 amRussian bluegrass. Just let that sink into your head for a minute. They're called Bering Strait (yeah, fucking original, I know) and they're actually quite good. Their traditional stuff sounds like Bela Fleck and from what Cody tells me, their non-traditional stuff is quite good (I haven't heard any yet though) and their traditional vocals with bluegrass backing (try downloading Porushka Paranya to see what I mean) is just head-explodingly... terrifying in a good way.
What's really great is that they were discovered by an American in Moscow performing in a Mexican restaurant.
