Dec. 21st, 2002 11:49 pmNot gonna be online much for a bit because I have now discovered the aevil time suck that is Final Fantasy VII, which is straightforward enough for even myself (I don't do well with adventure games that require actual THOUGHT).
So um, yeah. Yesterday I told Cody to get tickets for the earliest showing of The Two Towers that he could manage, thinking it would be about noon or so. Ten in the fucking morning, which necessitated getting up at 8:30, which is such an ungodly hour for me all the nine-to-fivers must want to beat me down. But it was worth it. So worth it. Except for the two dweeby whatsits sitting behind me going "Dude, Elrond looks like an aging hippie" and "SWEET!" every time there was a particularly juicy beheading of Uruk-Hai. No, intelligence isn't necessary to enjoy Tolkien, but goddamn if it doesn't help.
I really did like the movie. Being a bitter little wannabe cinema connoiseur, I keep forgetting that when Hollywood puts its mind to it (or doesn't stick its grubby little fingers into production) they can make pretty good movies. I think this is how audiences 40 or 50 years ago felt when they saw things like The Ten Commandments or Gone With the Wind. There's no sense of awe or epicness in movies anymore, and I am thankful to Peter Jackson for bringing some back.
