Hello from one of the epicenters of the COVID-19 outbreak! A colleague's kid goes to a daycare where there was a confirmed coronavirus case, and as a precautionary measure the office is shut down for two weeks and will be deep-cleaned at some point. We are all working from home as strongly suggested by all the health authorities.

The two days I did go into work the buses were half empty. For a commuter route that's usually packed like sardines, that was incredibly unusual. My husband, who can't work from home, has noticed traffic is much lighter. I'm irritated it takes us pandemic level threats to even consider altering our behavior in ways that would make it so much easier on workers and the environment.

There is no hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol to be found anywhere. I have heard even individual alcohol prep pads for injection sites are sold out. I can't tell how much is genuine concern or asshole opportunists. The Washington State Department of Health had to remind people not to be fucking racist as part of containment protocol, because that's the world we live in apparently. Everything is bad, and I am concerned for people who can't work from home, can't afford to take time off, or go to the doctor. We are already shit at taking care of vulnerable people, and this is not going to make things better.
