I'd forgotten what a beautiful song Sugar is. While I love Tori's new stuff—it's much more mature and complex than anything off Little Earthquakes or Under the Pink—the sheer elegance of her early stuff (When I got the Cornflake Girl single, I must have put Honey on repeat for about three hours) still blows me away. Like Sugar. There's so much feeling behind it that it's just overwhelming. And it comes out in so many ways. Like how she sings it on disc two of to venus and back. I love how she just sidles out to the audience (anybody who's been to a Tori concert has to be aware of the way she can be singing to ten thousand people and feel like she's whispering secrets into your ear) and draws them in with this conspiratorial drop of volume, and then she just spits out "You're just a PUSSY mysweetboy my sugar" and it's beautiful. I still have this urge to turn some songs up to an unholy volume the way one of my coworker's roommates did in college (he wired his stereo to this pair of speakers taller than he was, and played this one AC DC album for 11 hours, because he was so amazed by it. The entire city of Helena, Montana could hear.) and hope that the sheer force of the music could absorb into my skin.

I love many artists and bands and I would hate to do without any of them, but I think Tori is the one that I couldn't live without.

I know I wouldn't be able to live without
my music either .. Tori and her girls have
been there for me when other people just
couldn't reach that place .. that I was at.
My parents yell at me for "not living in
reality" and for depending too much on
people that "don't have a significant impact
on my life. People that don't put food on
the table" etc. ::/ it really frustrates
me, and when I tell them that they're very
influencial and have helped me through so
much they get all offended like .. bah.
