Jan. 28th, 2002 01:53 pmIf I ever needed any more proof that our President (I say that, but I can't really call him "my" president, considering I am one of the dissenting ten percent) is an idiot... Although to be fair, it's not just him, it's also those conservative bastards in Congress. I wish they'd get over the illusion that two-parent families are the be all and end all of all social problems. But then again, Congressmen aren't exactly prone to structural and social analysis and more finger in the dike methods of solving problems. The article also talks about how Republicans want to slash welfare spending. Umm, hello people? Does the word "recession" ring a bell for those of you who don't have to worry about it? In Oregon alone, people applying for food stamps have doubled in the past couple months. I presume the welfare rolls are increasing at a similar rate. To slash welfare budgets (the wrong kind, I might add ::cougheconomicstimuluspackagecough::) at this time indicates either an incredible callousness on the part of politicans or proof that to be a Congressperson, one must first get a frontal lobotomy.

Welfair or pore fare
Date: 2002-02-01 04:43 pm (UTC)Ok I am Robert, but every body calls me Jason, long story. Pleasure to meet you. I have lived most of my child hood on and off the streets. I have had friends and family who have/are addicted to drugs, and I have had ppl I new and care about go on and come off of welfaire.
Now for the issue at hand. No one has the correct solution to welfair, I will be the firsat to say the whole system is flawed. It alows those who don't need it to abuse it and screws those who do need it... I am a firm believer that the problem with welfair comes from the polotics behind it, it is a system that has been genuinly screwed by a commity. And no one realy wants to discuse the problems behind it becuase they are all too afraide to insult some one in power, or worry about being poliicaly correct.
I agree with you though that right now would be the worst time to cut funds to this, but it is going to be pushed through becuase we have a war to pay for.
*Sighs* No winning, in the words of Sun Tzu "One can not both make war and a strong nation."
