An occasional series in which I talk about my vids, because I fucking can. Hopefully it is also actually useful for people who don't vid or want to learn how to.

I think one of the very first fanvids I ever watched was to this song. I think this is it, the time period sounds right. So the circle is complete.

God, this is such a ridiculous, silly vid and I had so much fun making it. Play is not imperative for experimentation but it's definitely helpful. So my MO for this vid was basically "Is it funny? Then fucking do it."

Originally I had a title card on the intro. I moved it to the end so there's not a whole lot of visual interest. I suppose if I cared more I'd have spliced together all the title sequences (which are wonderfully visually interesting), but eh.

I do love the stupid crash transition for Stede's introduction. It is appropriately showy for a showy idiot.

I don't know if I've relaxed my stance on talky-face in vids, but it didn't feel super important to avoid in this particular one. And Ed looks hella funny in that particular clip, so.

The version of the song I pulled from YouTube was censored (I don't know why, the lyrics are about nuclear war) with, of all things, whip cracks, so of fucking course I had to match the clips. (Jack's stunt double actually ad-libbed whipping Taika in the nards at his goading, and I feel for Jenkins and the producers having to deal with this absolute force of chaos.) RIP Karl, your sacrifice was not in vain, as it provided great comic relief.

For a song this short, it has a lot of instrumental breaks. Normally I'm scrambling to figure out how to fill the time, but it actually worked out perfectly in this case, so I could highlight particular sequences. I didn't realize until I was editing Buttons's running that I was actually trying for the dynamism in the Sabotage video. I don't really fuck around with my clips much, but next time I might try doing some overdramatic zooms or something to try and emphasize that sense of motion.

I can't remember when I decided the "Do ya have any money?" verse was going to be the pyramid scheme, but I have to say it fits extremely well. I think this is my favorite bit of the vid.

Of COURSE I was going to do a stabbing montage. It's pretty much contractually obligated. I still love Stede's hurt but also extremely bitchy expression after the Spanish captain stabs him. It's a very "I'm in the wrong genre" face and I love it.

I also was v pleased to get the chance to highlight some of the show's extremely silly and classic visual gags, like the spectating during the duel. They're so obvious and so stupid, but they're still funny.

I considered using a badass shot of Ed for the "superstar" verse, but dissonance is much funnier. Except Jim doesn't really have any funny bits so they get to be genuinely badass. Lucius gay hammering had to close out the vid because it's iconique.
