GUYS. Did you know that Semagic still exists? And it's still being nominally maintained? It's still not quite as good as a web-based drafts feature, but it is another option.

I've gotten so used to using the web-based composer on Dreamwidth that it's hard to remember pretty much everything went through Semagic on LiveJournal: entry composition, friends list reading, things I don't even remember anymore but I know were doable through the client.

I don't know if I'm going to keep using it, but mostly I'm amused this thing from the days of ancients still works, like an old Apple IIe with Oregon Trail.

If you'd like to configure it for Dreamwidth, see instructions below the cut.

Fire up Semagic.
Uncheck the remember password and auto login if they're checked. You can tick the boxes again later. But to get Dreamwidth on Semagic you need those unchecked for right now.
Go up to the top of the interface and click on File.
Then click server settings.
A box should pop up.
Dreamwidth is not on the list of servers, so you'll have to add it manually.
In the server box, highlight whatever is there and delete.

Type in www.dreamwidth.org

Change the port to 443.

Tick the SSL box.

Tick the secure password box.

Put in your username and password.

Hit OK.

Semagic. It's been forever since I've heard of it. But, I do remember it being pretty useful for doing drafts and scheduling stuff. Can't believe it's still out there being useful. That's cool.

holy shit. I was just thinking the other day, "I seem to remember that Semagic supported LJ-adjacent sites, I wonder if they're still around" ... thank you so much!

I used Semagic when I had only a single Windows machine to compose on and I wanted to keep drafts available. Given that I can now compose on five devices and might need to share drafts across all of them, it's not as useful. But I am glad that it actually continues to work, because a composition tool like that is probably very helpful. If we could teach it DW-specific tags, that would be even better.

Oh, thank you! I tried to follow the settings from twitter, but couldn't get server response - either ticking secure password makes a difference, or there were gremlins in twitter the day I tried.
