Can Taika Waititi direct the rest of the MCU movies except Black Panther please? They would be improved like 1000%.
The thing that I feel is mostly missing from the MCU is glee. Guardians of the Galaxy comes pretty close: there's whimsy and the best character intro of the entire franchise, but I never really got the sense that James Gunn went balls to the wall in any regard. Taika? He enjoyed the shit out of this, and I feel like everybody else (especially Cate Blanchett) did too. (Like, I'm sure Patty Jenkins would have done a great job, but I feel like she made the movie she needed to make in Wonder Woman and Taika made the movie he needed to make here.)
I love the 80s science fantasy vibe of the whole thing, especially the way they weave Thor's theme into the synth-y soundtrack. Most of the movie feels like it could be airbrushed on the side of a big Econoline van. But it has some interesting things to say about a lot of topics: my husband thought Hela was kind of a cautionary tale about the destructiveness of certain types of nationalism, I thought it was partly an examination about mythologizing of history and the way we wrestle with that, some people think it's about colonialism and resistance.
I also thought it was really smart in the way it considers Thor's character and relationship with Loki. (Kudos to Taika and the writers for not overusing him. He was in there just the right amount.) It was just little things: the way he can talk with Bruce about science shit, or how well he knows his brother that he can outsmart him. (Poptarts!Thor is my second least favorite fanon characterization.) And there's actual, real character growth shown: the way he wants Loki to be better but has accepted that he probably won't ever be (but he hopes and Loki comes through in the end).
A laundry list of things I really liked:

A laundry list of things I really liked:
- Gratuitous female gaze re: Chris Hemsworth half-naked
- Chris Hemsworth's arms
- Idris Elba's arms (good god)
- Tessa Thompson's everything
- Cate Blanchett being the terrifying version of Galadriel I didn't realize I wanted (somehow I feel like my early 20s self who didn't really understand the feelings she had for Galadriel have been vindicated)
- Valkyrie beating the shit out of Loki and him being totally into it (he has a type ok)
- Jeff Goldblum's eyeliner

I hope it's a big breakout role for her the way CW was for Boseman, she's so good.
