some of the researchers around here are advertising for students who want to get Norwalk virus (and presumably get paid *g*). sadly they only want people in perfect health or else i would be all over that cash cow.

I would say that all of my friends who've had malaria would say that $2-$4k is not nearly enough for compensation.
