I'm not sure if it's more loathsome to justify your desire to be a gigantic useless space-taking mooch on society or to just lay it all out, so to speak. There's probably an amazing amount of analysis we could do on this letter, but the foremost thought in my head is "Am I a bad feminist because I really want to bitchslap her?"

Not in my opinion. Thinking that beauty has anything to do with what the world owes you is proof that your ego has gotten too big for its britches. As much as (assuming the letter's legit, of course) I commend her honesty, I want to slap her around for awhile just to make her realise that beauty isn't everything, and that maybe tact and less materially-oriented upward mobility would benefit her in the long run.

And as for beautiful women in singles' bars . . . I imagine she's never had a sit-down chat with one of those chicas. There are very, VERY few genuinely physically attractive, kind, interesting women out there who are single for any reason other than their own preferences - which means you wouldn't find one crying into her drink in a singles bar, and she'd be way more likely to be out having a life. Beauty will get you in the door, get you a minute of chit-chat, get you laid. Being a decent human being nets you a HELL of a lot more.

Mrrrah. Anyway. Suspect I'm preaching to the choir again. ;)

Something that was brought up in the comments in nihilistic_kid's post was that saying "I'm just being honest" is basically asking for tacit acceptance of one's actions, and I tend to agree. It's not like any upwardly mobile investment banker or hedge fund manager wouldn't sense a gold-digger from a mile away anyways, which is probably why she's still single. And she's also a raging bitch, which definitely doesn't help matters.

Something I found deeply amusing (and not really all that surprising) in the Gawker thread about this is that apparently if you're willing to indulge in some really freaky shit in bed you'll get a much better chance at marrying a meal ticket. Hooray for power and perversion!

Mph, very excellent point. I can only hope someone dropped her a line informing her that generally gold-diggers aren't the most sought-after creatures on the block.

Ahahaha, I saw that. The idea doesn't surprise me, either - "Yeah, maybe she doesn't look like a supermodel - but she doesn't laugh or scream and run away when I tell her what I REALLY like in bed," strikes me as a totally reasonable perspective to have.

I'm also trying to figure out, what with scandals and rumours and such, if the upper class is overly prone to bizarre fetishes and mental disorders in comparison to the rest of the world, or if it's just that nobody cares if you're (for instance) a nymphomaniac schizophrenic if you're also poor. Because I can come up with plenty of explanations, if so, but I don't want to attack without justification.

To be honest, I suspect proportionally it's pretty much all the same, but . . .
