Oct. 17th, 2004 02:48 pmNova Scotia votes to uphold Sunday shopping ban WTF, mate? Reading through the thread, apparently there are ridiculous remnants of blue laws in a lot of places. I remember being in New Zealand on a Sunday and desperately unable to find anything that was open to buy food, except for one small dairy and a fish and chip shop, and thinking it was the strangest thing in the world. I also remember people from the South asking me if one could buy alcohol on Sunday in Oregon when I worked at the grocery store. Of course, being in Vancouver, I'm kind of subjected to the blue law mentality just by default (and lazy shopkeeps), and it drives me fucking nuts. I am alll about the 24/7 accessibility, people. I'm not religious. I don't give a damn about the Sabbath. Close your store if you want, it's a free country, but I'll probably never shop there.
