My resume is done, finally, so I can start dressing up and hitting temp agencies and hoping I don't look too piteous when I ask them for work. In some ways, I actually like temp agencies more, because they're not really concerned with how you're committed to some namby pamby feel-good philosophical pseudo-mission of Das UberKorporation. They just want you to have the relevant skills and experience so you can be that missing cog in the machine, and that's fine with me. I'm not looking to develop a Relationship with my workplace. I just want to be there, put in my seat time, and get paid. I will even do it well if they ask nicely. But all this pretense of self-actualization through slave-wagery (look, if I wanted enlightenment through toil, I'd go check into a Zen monastery like Adrienne did) just pisses me off. I'm not working in some Japanese zaibatsu or Korean chaebol where I'm guaranteed cradle-to-grave employment (that's changing too, thanks to enroaching market forces) and the benefits and culture that come with it, and it's insulting to me as a person and a worker that I'm expected to believe this shit when I'm not going to get any of the benefits, monetary or otherwise.

*laugh* Hell, maybe you should join a monastery. Sure, that whole no sex thing sucks, but the scenery's beautiful, you never have to worry about needing something, and as long as you don't mind being a vegetarian the food is incredibly tasty.

Actually, in the face of having to find a decent post-college job with the market so shitty, monastery life is looking pretty attractive....
