Argh. Do any of you guys have Qwest DSL? Do you have problems downloading things? Is the port forwarding all fux0red up on your modem too? Help meee. I want to be able to use my fucking bandwidth! [/whine]

Yeah, I never got my FTP server to work. Setting the DMZ to your computer's IP address is the best it can do. That forwards all ports to your computer and disables any firewall protection.

Can one set up a software firewall like Zone Alarm to ensure a modicum of protection, or does it not matter? And does one use the IP address the network gives you or an address in the private range? I just want my fucking torrents to download, and Qwest makes it really hard to make sure they do.

As long as you keep Windows up to date with security updates, I wouldn't worry about a firewall. In the configuration pages, you enter the LAN IP address (192.168.0.x) of the computer that's downloading the torrents. I think there's also an option in BitTorrent to force the IP address to be the real external one.
