Mayor in New York hamlet marries gay couples

It's happening. It's fucking happening. Of course, it's a podunk little town in upstate NY with a Green Party mayor, but it's fucking happening.

I would like to remind all Portlanders, however, that Katz as mayor has nothing to do with marriage issues in the city. The county is where you need to start pestering people, Diane Linn in particular, I think.

Re: the latter: I agree, but don't agree. Yes, pester Diane Linn rather than Vera Katz to issue licences, but also pester Vera Katz to speak out openly in support of same-sex marriages in Portland. She, like the mayor of Chicago, could start dialogue with the county chair about making it happen (though, I note with cynicism, nothing's happened in Chicago yet).
