You really should go see Better Luck Tomorrow (not to be confused with John Woo's A Better Tomorrow, which is easily rentable at your local video store). It's an interesting juxtaposition considering it's opening in wide release in a weekend saturated with racially stereotypical crap (Malibu's Most Wanted, Bulletproof Monk). So yeah. Go support independent Asian American cinema. It's good for everybody.

Mmm. I read several fantastic articles about this film in the National Post (fascist daily extraordinaire) recently, and everyone on my friends list who's seen it has said excellent things. I think I'm going to have to try and go sometime this week.

I just saw it yesterday. I was one of four people in the theater. Then again, I'm in North Carolina. It's definitely worth seeing, important for its existence. It's well done and actually presents complicated Asian American characters (even if they aren't "positive" portrayals). I still prefer Justin Lin's earlier film Shopping for Fangs (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0122710), though. Then again, I like weird-ass stuff better than "realistic" stuff (though BLT reaches for something more than realism).

Of course, all the previews for the movie were geared towards exoticized movies. I think the word "ancient" (as in "ancient martial arts," "ancient wisdom," etc.) was mentioned in every single goddamned trailer.
