I shit you not, there is a Christian beauty magazine in the world now (thank you Metafilter):

"EYESHADOW: Our eyes reflect so much of who we are, what mood we are in and our emotions. As a Christian, our eyes should ultimately reflect the of God in our soul. Shadow them upon the Lord."

So does Jesus prefer the sparkly blue or the matte eyeshadow? And will I go to hell if I make the wrong choice, or shall I simply beg His forgiveness and just apply the kind that the voice in my heart tells me is right? And does He have a position on foundation, or does He prefer the concealer method? These are important questions, you know.

(Almost as weird as the people who go all SCA in Jerusalem and re-enact the crucifixion. But not quite.)

this is.. stu.. nning. I can't believe it's real, lol. Nor do I get why they're promoting makeup in the first place. In theory, makeup is a lie, hiding WHAT HE MADE US! Can I get an amen

You can have two Amens from me *loves*

There are two ways my reply could go.

(a) You could say that makeup isn't necessary or "Christlike." It makes more sense to me (and it did when I was a christian, too).

or (b) You could be like someone from my former church who shall remain nameless, and decide to split the youth Bible study by gender and teach the young women a charm course. I'm not kidding; we didn't discuss things like body image at all - we covered cosmetics, etiquette and how to behave on a date. it made me ill and I let the person in charge know (in no uncertain terms) taht I thought it was drek. She replied that we needed to be presenting ourselves as young ladies or as princesses "because after all, we're daughters of the King."

Excuse me while I go gag.

Alice, did you even read the website? It talks about foundation and concealer, too.

Frankly, I think we all ought to be thankful for a magazine that doesn't teach girls they're doing everything just to get a guy. I'm considering subscribing.

And what the hell is wrong with re-enacting the crucifixion?

If makeup enables young women to express the beauty God gave them or whatnever.. shouldn't the magazine encourage its use by young men, too?

Only if it's a magazine aimed at both sexes.
