Feb. 4th, 2003 05:23 pmWas downtown waiting for the bus, and I was looking at the afternoon edition of the Oregonian, which had a picture of a flag in the foreground of a makeshift memorial at the front of the mission control center in Houston. Across the street was a bagpiping street musician. Normally, he's not very good, but today for some reason, he was playing "Amazing Grace," clear and beautiful, and it made me want to cry.
All the flags in front of the government buildings were at half-staff, and since there was no wind, they were all limp. It was like they were too sad even to fly.
