After you mentioned it, I realized in Portland this has also been the only year in so many that the leaves have stayed crunchy instead of degenerating into a horrible slimy mess because of the rain. The leaves are ground and crunched underfoot, turning into little particles of brown and orange and yellow, making people with smooth-soled shoes slip their feet before they return back to the ground.

Watched a Biography on Jimi Hendrix (incidentally, it is The Good Die Young Week on A&E, which we all know they do). I don't know if it is easier to respect artists from thirty, forty years prior precisely because they have withstood the test of time, or because they were better. (For all I know, in 30 years people will look at N'Sync the same way they look at the Monkees: amusing, created, but still cult)

Jimi Hendrix died choking on his own vomit. Wine seeped out of his stomach and his lungs. Those close to him say his handlers kept him on drugs and the most amazingly horrible shit so he'd not wonder where all the money went (the Bahamas) and so he'd do as he was told.

The more I learn about the world, the more I know some things never change.
