Feb. 3rd, 2010 03:54 pmMy credit union has this new thing where you can scan a check in and deposit it remotely. It's kind of nifty, in that I don't have to schlep the 20 BLOCKS ZOMG to the branch, but it still feels terribly clunky and not much of a time-saver, because I have to fire up the scanning software and fiddle with all the settings before I can even scan and upload the check image. And then I have to find a safe place to put the thing for 60 days before I can safely dispose of it. I preferred the future where I could just hold out the check to the ATM and it would schlurp! it up (the aural feedback is very important, y'see), magically detect everything, and just let me confirm. The former method is just so banal, and I still don't have my flying car, dammit.
TL;DR: THE FUTURE IS BORING AND FILLED WITH SCANNING OPTIMIZATION
