Public service announcement, in response to somebody on Twitter:
Please don't call canonical same-sex couples girlxgirl or boyxboy. It makes you sound really fucking ignorant or that you think same-sex relationships are all about the physical all the time. It's not some exhibitionist act or porn scene (not that there's anything wrong with that, mind). It's about hearts, minds, and bodies, like any hetero relationship.
I would also argue that you shouldn't call it slash either, but definitions may have drifted since I became a bitter old fandom hag so I'm willing to let it slide. Call it gay, lesbian, queer, or about fucking time, but please not those ridiculous terms above. Thank you.
